About Punjab Institute of EnglishThe Regional Institute of English, formerly called the Punjab Institute of
English, was established in 1963 under a GOI scheme for qualitative improvement in the teaching of
English at the secondary level. It caters to the English Language Teaching (ELT) needs of the northern
India in state/UT governments of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh.
Lodged in a spacious campus in sector 32 C, Chandigarh, the Institute has a highly qualified faculty
consisting of one Director and seven Associate Professors/Assistant Professors, one of them on
contract basis. The library is managed by a qualified librarian. The office has one superintendent
assisted by a team of four personnel. The Institute has one technical assistant who looks after the
functioning of the Institute’s two multimedia language laboratories and the studio. It has eleven
Group D employees on a regular basis, while one driver and four others have been engaged on contract
basis. The Institute also engages contractual staff from time to time to conduct its various courses.
